LONDON, Jun 16: Iran's exiled crown prince, Reza Pahlavi, said on Tuesday that any international agreement that preserves the Islamic Republic or elements of its governing structure is destined to fail, arguing that the Iranian people would reject such an outcome.
Pahlavi made the remarks during a meeting with Emily Thornberry and other members of the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.
According to Pahlavi, discussions focused on the situation inside Iran, the government's treatment of its citizens, and the importance of placing the Iranian people at the center of British policy toward Tehran.
He argued that engaging with the current Iranian leadership was both morally and strategically flawed, claiming that the government had been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 Iranians during recent unrest.
"Any agreement that preserves the Islamic Republic or its remnants will fail because the people of Iran will not accept it," Pahlavi said, adding that international policymakers should focus on supporting the aspirations of ordinary Iranians rather than seeking arrangements that maintain the existing political system.
Pahlavi also expressed confidence that the Iranian people would ultimately bring about political change, stating that the country's future would be determined by its citizens regardless of the level of international support.
"With or without international support, the people of Iran will overthrow this regime. Freedom will come to Iran," he said.
The comments come amid ongoing debate over international engagement with Tehran and reports of diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing regional security concerns and Iran's nuclear program.
