KUWAIT CITY, Oct 22: The General Traffic Department has issued a new administrative circular mandating the impoundment of vehicles for a period of two months for a range of serious violations, including exceeding overtaking limits, deliberately obstructing traffic, blocking public roads, and parking in prohibited areas. Offenders will also be required to pay fines ranging between KD 15 and KD 20 after the completion of the impoundment period.
A security source confirmed that the circular—Administrative Circular No. 9 of 2025—officially took effect yesterday. The source noted that the two-month impoundment penalty had already been enforced earlier this week for violations involving dangerous overtaking and obstruction of traffic. The updated circular now extends the penalty to cover illegal parking and deliberate obstruction in public parking areas, offenses reportedly on the rise in recent months.
The directive further instructs all assistant directors, department heads, and relevant staff to strictly implement the new procedures and prohibits any official from lifting the impoundment before the completion of the mandated period. The General Traffic Department emphasized that the decision reflects its commitment to maintaining traffic discipline and ensuring the safety of all road users.
