Ex-MP Nafisi acquitted in ‘sedition’ charges – ‘Royal’ sued for abusing ruling family

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: The Cassation Court ruled in favor of former MP and academician Dr Abdullah Al-Nafi si and freed him, reports Al- Qabas daily. Earlier the Court of Appeals had overturned the verdicts of two lower courts and fined Al-Nafi si KD 10,000 for undermining national unity during a seminar which was held under the title ‘Safavid intervention and the threat to the Gulf’ in Fahaheel.

The Cassation Court upheld the verdicts of both the lower courts and acquitted Al-Nafi si. Defense lawyer Duwaim Al-Muwaizri said his client did talk about the Shiite sect, but he was talking about the Iranian Safavid intervention, since the Safavid neither belongs to the Sunni nor the Shiite faith, but it was a sect or a political party.

 ‘Royal’ sued: Sheikh Mubarak Al- Abdullah, who has the power of attorney from his brother, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and acting Minister for Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah, has fi led a libel lawsuit against Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Ahmad, reports Al-Rai daily according to reliable sources.

In the lawsuit the plaintiff accused the defendant of abusing the ruling family. During interrogation, according to sources, Sheikh Abdullah admitted to the charge in front of the Directorate-General for Investigations but said what he talked was about a video clip and did not intend to abuse anyone. The investigator has ordered further detention of the suspect.
