KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: A routine stop to refuel turned into a frightening ordeal on Kuwait’s Seventh Ring Road when a late-model 2026 Asian vehicle suddenly began emitting smoke from its engine while parked at a gas station. According to a security source, the driver was caught by surprise when he noticed smoke coming from the engine as he was refueling. He immediately got out of the vehicle and, with the assistance of gas station employees, grabbed a fire extinguisher and tackled the flames. Their quick response helped bring the fire under control before it could spread to the surrounding area, particularly the fuel pumps, potentially preventing a much more serious incident at the station.
The Ministry of Interior’s operations room was notified of the incident, and the General Fire Department dispatched firefighters to the scene. Firefighters carried out the necessary technical procedures and examined the vehicle, while the dealership was notified and asked to prepare a technical report to establish what caused the fire. The exact cause has not yet been determined, and authorities have registered a case as the investigation continues.
The driver reportedly said the vehicle had been purchased recently and had also undergone maintenance shortly before the incident. In an unusual twist, he did not rule out what he described as the possibility of the vehicle being affected by the “evil eye,” although no conclusion has been reached and a technical malfunction remains among the possibilities being examined.
Authorities also used the incident to remind motorists of the importance of following safety procedures at fuel stations, particularly switching off the vehicle’s engine while refueling. The circumstances surrounding the sudden fire, including whether it was caused by a mechanical or electrical fault, will be determined once the technical inspection is completed.
