European Powers Signal Readiness to Lift Iran Sanctions Following US–Iran Breakthrough

LONDON, June 15: Britain, France, Germany and Italy have signaled their readiness to consider lifting sanctions on Iran, contingent on concrete steps addressing Tehran’s nuclear program, following the recent agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at easing tensions and advancing diplomatic engagement.

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the four European countries welcomed the breakthrough between Washington and Tehran and reiterated their longstanding position that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon.

“Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. We stand ready to work with the US, Iran and the IAEA to this end,” the statement said.

The European powers indicated that any easing of sanctions would be linked to verifiable Iranian commitments on its nuclear activities, suggesting potential progress toward a phased diplomatic framework following the expected signing of a US–Iran memorandum of understanding on Friday.

The statement also underscored support for continued international coordination involving the United States, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as negotiations move into a new phase aimed at stabilizing the nuclear issue and reducing regional tensions.

Diplomatic observers say the move reflects growing alignment among Western allies on pursuing a structured de-escalation pathway, while maintaining pressure on Iran’s nuclear program through conditional incentives.
