EPA successfully manage oil spill on Doha’s eastern coast

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) confirmed today, Saturday, that it has successfully managed and contained an oil spill detected along the eastern coasts of Doha, in collaboration with the Kuwait National Petroleum Company. The relevant authorities will continue to monitor and assess the marine environment and coastlines in the affected area.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Zaidan, the Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs at the Authority, informed the Kuwait News Agency that a report was received yesterday regarding oil pollution on the eastern coasts of Doha. Following this, an inspection was conducted today, revealing oil spills along the eastern Doha chalets spanning approximately 450 meters, with the source remaining "unknown."

After the inspection, the national plan was activated to implement necessary measures for addressing marine oil pollution. The Authority coordinated with the Hazardous Factors Committee of the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Civil Defense, to inform all relevant parties of the action plan to combat the oil spills affecting the coastline.

Dr. Al-Zaidan explained that the responsible authorities will work to rehabilitate and clean the damaged coastline, noting that the Kuwait National Petroleum Company will manage the oil spill response and coastline rehabilitation, with the cleaning process expected to take 24 hours.

Coordination has also taken place with the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment to utilize satellite imagery in assessing the extent of the oil spill. Additionally, a study of the area will be conducted to identify potential sources, and authorities will continue to monitor the region and marine environment to ensure their safety.
