KUWAIT CITY, Jan 17: Kuwait Municipality has completed the closure of Enjaz Market, while the Beriah Salem project is approaching its end, as part of regulatory procedures governing the management and operation of both sites. Following the decision No. 57/2026 issued on Thursday, January 7, by the Director General of Kuwait Municipality, Eng.

Manal Al-Asfour, which mandated the evacuation of Enjaz Market within seven days, regulatory authorities, represented by the Capital Municipality and its Director Eng. Mohammed Marzouq Al-Mutairi, coordinated with the Ministry of Interior to carry out the full evacuation of the market on Thursday, January 15. This step was taken after warnings were issued to shop owners, and after the warning period had expired. Similarly, the Beriah Salem project is set to face the same fate, after the warning period for shop and kiosk owners expired on Thursday, January 15. The decision to vacate both sites follows the municipality’s efforts to ensure smooth operations. The municipality had contacted the Ministry of Finance to explore the possibility of continuing operations at the Beriah Salem and Enjaz projects by extending the investors’ contracts until new tenders were issued. However, the ministry rejected this extension and requested the handover of the sites and the eviction of the tenants.

According to an informed source, retendering the Beriah Salem project will take at least six months. There is no active development on the project at this stage, and proposals and accompanying plans submitted by companies interested in investing will be carefully reviewed. The municipality will award the tenders to specialized companies in business, exhibitions, or real estate capable of managing the project, rather than relying on business incubators as was previously done.

Meanwhile , Kuwait Municipality stressed that reports circulating on some social media platforms about a fine being imposed on “Mai Al-Sabeel” are completely false, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The municipality clarified via its X account that Ministerial Decision No. 30/2021 relates to regulating the terms and conditions for the use of sidewalks and squares in front of commercial establishments.
