KUWAIT CITY, Sep 5: Kuwait’s General Directorate of Traffic has arrested a suspect accused of reckless and negligent driving that endangered his own life, other road users and their property.

The suspect was identified after the Security Control Department monitored a video documenting the incident and conducted the necessary investigations. Legal action was taken against him, and he was subsequently transferred to the Central Prison.

The vehicle used in the incident was also impounded after completion of the legal procedures for its confiscation in favor of the Ministry of Interior.

Under Article 33 bis of Kuwait’s Traffic Law, anyone convicted of reckless or negligent driving that endangers the lives or property of the driver or others may face imprisonment of more than one year and up to three years, along with a fine ranging from KD 600 to KD 1,000, or either of the two penalties.

The law also allows the court, either on its own initiative or at the request of the Ministry of Interior, to order the confiscation of the vehicle in favor of the Ministry if the accused is convicted of an offense covered by the article.

The General Directorate of Traffic stressed that it will not tolerate behavior that threatens the safety of road users or puts lives and property at risk.
