KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: The Court of Cassation upheld the Court of Appeals’ ruling to refrain from sentencing 20 employees of Jahra Hospital who were convicted of embezzling salaries by falsifying attendance records. The ruling follows the full repayment of the misappropriated funds by the employees.
According to the case file, the defendants conspired with several security guards to clock in on their behalf in exchange for money, using silicone fingerprint scanners to record false attendance and departure times. This allowed them to receive salaries and allowances they were not entitled to. Both the lower and appeals courts had convicted the employees but refrained from issuing sentences, taking into account the repayment of the embezzled amounts. The Court of Cassation upheld this ruling.
