KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: Those convicted in cases of embezzling public money cases can now pay back the money and ‘leave’ the prison under an Amiri amnesty, but the Attorney-General has the final say in this matter, and he has the right to refuse pardon for reasons that he deems appropriate, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In this regard, the head of the Supreme Committee for the Amiri Amnesty Rules, Advisor Muhammad Al-Duaij, has announced new rules for the release of those convicted of embezzling public money through final verdicts during the current year provided they return the embezzled money and paying the legally established fines.

Al-Duaij explained to Al-Qabas that the basic principle is to deny the convicts in cases of public money the Amiri pardon, as well as the conditional release, but an exception was seen as one who initiatives to get back the looted state funds
