WASHINGTON, Oct 4, (Agencies): An elderly couple, Marty and Jess Ansen, embarked on a unique adventure by booking an astonishing 51 consecutive cruises. This extraordinary decision came about when they realized that sailing around the world was more economical than opting for a retirement home.

Their remarkable journey commenced on June 16, 2022, aboard the Coral Princess by Princess Cruises. They’ve already spent a staggering 450 days at sea, surpassing the tenure of most of the ship’s crew, including the captains.

The couple’s decision to set sail came after enduring two years of stringent lockdowns in Australia. Following this challenging experience, they decided to embrace a perpetual vacation. Marty explained, “Eventually, I said to my agent, ‘Book whatever is available,’ and that’s how our cruise turned into such a long-term adventure.”

For Marty and Jess, cruising had always been a cherished pastime even before retirement. After pondering a couple of additional vacations, they realized that living on board for two years was a more convenient and enjoyable alternative to the expenses of a care home. Jess emphasized, “It’s our chosen lifestyle.” She highlighted the constant array of activities, from dancing to exploring new cities, ensuring they never experience a dull moment. Plus, they relish the luxury of having their cabin cleaned by a dedicated maid.

Jess added, “Where else can you find a place where you can enjoy a splendid dinner, attend a captivating show, and dance the night away? Throughout the day, we’re spoiled for choice with an abundance of activities.”

While Jess indulges in hula dancing during her days, Marty has forged “lifelong friendships” with fellow passengers. As they revel in this cruise-induced bliss, mundane chores like washing dishes or making the bed have become distant memories. Jess humorously quipped, “We’ve forgotten how to make a bed because it’s been so long. So now, we must stay on board just to stay alive.”

In their unconventional choice of perpetual cruising, Marty and Jess have found a unique and fulfilling way to spend their retirement years, far removed from the conventional notion of a retirement home.
