Eight Women and One Man Lose Kuwait Citizenship Over Dual Nationality

KUWAIT CITY: The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship has issued two decisions revoking the citizenship of nine individuals for holding dual nationality, according to an addendum published Tuesday in the official gazette Kuwait Alyoum.

In the first decision, the committee ordered the withdrawal of citizenship from a Kuwaiti woman under Article 10 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, the Kuwaiti Nationality Law. The article stipulates that a Kuwaiti woman who marries a foreign national does not lose her citizenship unless she voluntarily acquires her husband’s nationality at her own request.

The second decision revoked the citizenship of eight individuals — seven women and one man — pursuant to Article 11 of the same law, which provides that a Kuwaiti national forfeits citizenship upon voluntarily acquiring a foreign nationality.

The decisions form part of the authorities’ ongoing review of citizenship status cases involving dual nationality, in line with the provisions of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law.
