Egyptians’ Love for Coffee: 70 Tons from Abroad

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: On the occasion of ‘International Coffee Day’, which coincides with the beginning of October every year, a recent report, issued by the Egyptian government statistics agency, revealed that Egyptians consume about 70 tons of imported coffee annually, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Statistics Authority stated that Egypt’s imports of “unroasted and decaffeinated” coffee increased by 58.2 percent during 2022, compared to consumption in 2021, an increase described as record.

In another report, the Statistics Authority said that the total coffee import bill in Egypt during the first seven months of 2022 was about $121.2 million, compared to $81.5 million for the same period of the year 2021.

In the year 2023, coffee imports recorded, from January to May, $101.305 million, compared to $64.032 million in the corresponding period of 2021, and coffee prices in local markets rose significantly, ranging from 350 to 509 pounds per kilogram, depending on its type.
