KUWAIT CITY, July 9: The Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Abdulwahab Al-Muaili, with Judges Waqyan Al-Waqyan and Mohammad Issa as members, sentenced three Egyptians to seven years in prison and fined them KD3,463,000, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

These three Egyptians were convicted in a money laundering and embezzlement case involving funds from the Patients Aid Fund and a charitable committee from 2002 to 2006. The verdict is in response to a judicial request from the Arab Republic of Egypt, where the defendants were apprehended and sued. They had earlier been sentenced to prison and fined three times the amount they embezzled. Investigations revealed that the defendants misappropriated funds belonging to the Patients Aid Fund and a charitable committee, then laundered the money, before the Kuwaiti judicial authorities took legal action against them.
