KUWAIT CITY, Oct 24: The Public Prosecution is currently probing a recent case of embezzlement, involving the misappropriation of 15 million dinars from the 'treatment abroad' fund. An Egyptian national is under suspicion, although it is widely believed that he has fled the country.
The Al-Qabas daily has learned that the Ministry of Health, through its representatives during the Public Prosecution's inquiries, affirmed that the accused, an Egyptian travel agency director national fabricated invoices associated with foreign medical treatment and hotel bookings for citizens.
He exploited the absence of a health office in a particular European country, and managed to accumulate over 15 million dinars.
The source clarified that the Ministry of Health detected the malfeasance by scrutinizing invoices related to overseas medical treatment. It was revealed that the accused had counterfeited invoices for hotel reservations and medical treatments in the European nation, subsequently submitting these falsified documents to the Ministry of Health in his capacity as the head of a tourism and travel company.
The source also indicated that the relevant authorities will establish contact with the Egyptian authorities to arrest and extradite the suspect to initiate legal proceedings against him after furnishing evidence of his involvement in the misappropriation of funds.
Furthermore, the source noted that parallel to the ongoing investigations, efforts are underway to identify other individuals implicated in the case to glean further insights.
