KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 5: An Egyptian expatriate working as a gynecologist has been arrested by the Ministry of Interior for allegedly exploiting his profession to perform illegal abortions and supply abortion pills in exchange for money, authorities announced on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry, the arrest was carried out by the Criminal Security Sector's General Department of Criminal Investigation after receiving information that the doctor was conducting illegal abortion procedures at his private clinic and accepting payments in cash or through bank transfers. Investigators launched surveillance and inquiries, which confirmed the allegations.

Police then arranged an undercover operation in which officers contacted the suspect seeking abortion pills and scheduled a meeting at his clinic. After obtaining the necessary legal authorization, officers raided the premises and arrested him.

A subsequent search of the doctor's residence led to the seizure of 49 abortion pills and 115 psychotropic pills. During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the charges and admitted that he had obtained the abortion pills from abroad through illegal channels.

The suspect, along with the seized items, has been referred to the competent authorities to face legal proceedings.

The Ministry of Interior reiterated that it will take firm action against anyone who exploits their profession for illegal financial gain, stressing that such practices violate the law and threaten the security and well-being of society.
