Egyptian Contractor in Kuwait Accused of Selling Subsidized Materials Worth KD 21,000

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 15: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Hawally Governorate, specifically the Hawally and Shaab department, has issued an arrest order for an Egyptian contractor following a complaint filed by a contracting company accusing him of stealing subsidized construction materials valued at approximately 21,000 Kuwaiti dinars.

According to a security source, the suspect had been working with the company as a subcontractor under a formal agreement that authorized him to manage and execute a construction project on behalf of a plot owner in Shaab, Block 3. The contract required the contractor to oversee the project on a turnkey basis, which included the procurement and delivery of government-subsidized building materials.

The source explained that a dispute later arose between the company and the subcontractor, ultimately leading to the termination of their professional relationship. Following the termination, the company discovered irregularities related to the handling of the subsidized materials allocated for the project.

Investigations revealed that the contractor had delivered the materials to the plot owner, who allegedly misused part of the shipment. Some of the subsidized materials were reportedly sold outside the company’s authorized channels and premises without the company’s knowledge or consent.

The total value of the misappropriated materials has been estimated at 21,000 Kuwaiti dinars. The plot owner has since approached the company, requesting that the missing materials be resupplied in order to continue the construction work.

The complainant confirmed that the company is pursuing all legal avenues to locate and apprehend the accused contractor. It also intends to conduct a full inventory of the materials involved to accurately document the losses. Once the investigation is completed, the case will be referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal action in accordance with the law.
