Egypt says drone attack caused fire aboard two vessels at Damietta Port

CAIRO, July 30: Egypt said Thursday that a drone caused a fire aboard two vessels at Damietta Port on the Mediterranean coast, a day after the blaze was brought under control.

The Egyptian Cabinet said preliminary investigations found that the incident on July 29 was caused by a drone, adding that no party had claimed responsibility.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances and said necessary measures would be taken to protect Egypt’s interests and national security.

The confirmation came a day after maritime risk firm Ambrey reported an explosion at a US-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged floating liquefied natural gas facility at Damietta Port. US President Donald Trump on Wednesday vowed a “very hard” response after a drone struck a US-owned LNG tanker in Egypt.
