KUWAIT CITY, May 01: The Egyptian national wheelchair basketball team clinched the championship title at the first Arab Wheelchair Basketball Championship, following a close win over the host team, Kuwait, in the final match played on Monday. The final match, attended by the tournament's sponsor, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, was fiercely contested by both sides, particularly on the defensive front. In the last moments of the game at the Kuwaiti Sports Club Hall for the Disabled, the two teams were neck-to-neck in terms of scoring until the Egyptian team secured the championship title in the final seconds (41-40).

The Moroccan national team earned the third position by defeating their UAE counterparts (60-43) in the ranking match, and won the bronze medal. The UAE team finished fourth. The tournament, which spanned five days and comprised of eight teams, was deemed a technical, organizational, and public success by the head of the organizing committee, Shafi Al-Hajri, who expressed his appreciation for the generous support of Minister Al-Mutairi for the tournament and the General Sports Authority for overcoming all hurdles.

Egyptian national team player Ahmed Fathi expressed his excitement and joy at winning the championship title and praised the impressive performance of the Kuwaiti national team players. Fathi commended the organizing committee for their efforts in ensuring the comfort of all participating teams and expressed hopes for the championship to continue, contributing to elevating the standard of the game in the Arab world.

The event was concluded in the presence of Faisal Al-Yateem, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Sports, Bashar Abdullah, his deputy for competitive sports affairs, Sheikha Sheikha Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, the honorary president of the Handicapped Club, officials of the organizing committee, and a large audience.
