Editor-in-Chief of Arab Times and Al-Seyassah newspapers Ahmed Al-Jarallah and Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi engage in a forward-looking dialogue on strengthening Kuwait’s media landscape and empowering the local press.
KUWAIT CITY, May 8: Editor-in-Chief of Arab Times and Al-Seyassah newspapers Ahmed Al-Jarallah has stressed the need to provide the best mechanisms for supporting journalism, while enabling it to achieve further progress and development. Al-Jarallah made the statement during his meeting with Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi at the Office of the Minister on Thursday. They engaged in discussions on strengthening communication between the Ministry of Information and national press organizations, as well as the latest developments in the media sector.
They talked about a number of pressing media issues related to Kuwaiti affairs and ways to address the challenges that local press institutions are currently facing. These endeavors aim to ensure the media’s role in supporting national development objectives and upholding the principles of freedom and expression, while maintaining professional responsibility and safeguarding the national interests. They deliberated on mechanisms for strengthening cooperation between the ministry and Kuwaiti press institutions; thereby, fostering a robust local media environment and developing legislation to regulate media operations in line with the rapid evolution of the sector.
Al-Jarallah underscored the importance of the provision of optimal mechanisms to bolster journalism and facilitate its advancement; hence, the need for a conducive legislative framework, streamlined access to information, and support for journalistic institutions in terms of training and professional development. He believes these steps will improve the standard of media content and the proficiency of national manpower. He also presented several concerns of the Kuwaiti press; stressing the need to address the obstacles that newspapers are facing and to cultivate a supportive environment for journalists, while protecting their rights and encouraging creative endeavors.
He pointed out this is a crucial move toward ensuring the sustained viability and competitiveness of Kuwaiti journalism amidst digital transformations and new media platforms. Meanwhile, Minister Al-Mutairi affirmed acknowledgment of the issues raised and commended Al-Jarallah’s contributions to the media landscape; while reaffirming the commitment of the ministry to exert collaborative efforts with media outlets in a bid to advance the contents of Kuwaiti media, strengthen its regional and international position, and build a responsible national media that supports the process of development and renaissance in the country.
