Earthquake of 6.8 magnitude jolts parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, March 21: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 jolted several cities in Pakistan and Afghanistan including the federal capital Islamabad on Tuesday. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake was reported in the Hindu Kush region on Tuesday night at a depth of 180 kilometers. The strong tremors were felt in several cities of Pakistan with tremors lasting for at least 30 seconds. The tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Swat, Nowshera, DI Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Swat, Shangla, and other cities. People ran out of their houses in panic and a stampede was also reported in the markets of eastern Rawalpindi city. No casualties or loss of life have been reported so far. The US Geological Survey said the quake rocked Afghanistan as well and the quake epicenter was 40 kilometers south-southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm. (KUNA) –
