Eaman Al-Roudhan named ‘CEO’ Zain Kuwait from 1st of December – New CEO to work closely with group

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 1: Zain Group, a leading mobile telecom innovator across the Middle East and Africa, announces the appointment of Kuwaiti national, Mrs Eaman Al Roudhan as CEO of Zain Kuwait, the Group’s flagship and most profitable operation, effective Dec 1, 2015. Mrs Al Roudhan will succeed Omar Al Omar who will return to Zain Group in a senior advisory role supporting the Zain Group CEO in transforming the company into an integrated digital lifestyle operator.

A results-focused telecommunications executive, Mrs Al Roudhan brings over 20 years of experience to the position, 18 years of which were spent in various executive management and leadership roles within Zain Kuwait as well as several Zain Group affiliates. Prior to her new appointment, Mrs Al Roudhan was the Chief Regulatory Officer of Zain Group.

Mrs Al Roudhan will continue to build on the healthy foundation of success laid by Mr Al Omar, who has been CEO of Zain Kuwait since October 2011 and before that the company’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, having joined Zain back in September 2001.

Commenting on the appointment, Zain Group CEO Scott Gegenheimer said: “With Mrs Al Roudhan’s distinguished record and strong background in regulatory affairs, mobile technology, strategy and management, I have every confidence she is the right person to take Zain Kuwait to the next level in solidifying its market leadership. It is also a significant development in Zain’s evolution, with Mrs Al Roudhan being the first women appointed to a CEO role within Zain Group operations.”

Gegenheimer continued: “I would also like to express my gratitude to Omar Al Omar for the hard work he has contributed to Zain Kuwait in various leadership roles. Through his efforts since becoming CEO, Zain Kuwait has substantially increased its customer base as well as maintained its position as the most efficient and profitable operation in the Group. Although he will be missed at an operational, we are very happy to have him joining us at the Group level, and for our other mobile operations to benefit from his vast experience and expertise.”

The incoming CEO of Zain Kuwait, Mrs Al Roudhan commented: “I am honored to be given this prime opportunity to continue my rewarding journey with Zain. Mrs Al Roudhan’s successful career at Zain commenced in 1998 within the Kuwait operation and launched the first mobile prepaid service in the country, which went on to dominate the country’s prepaid mobile customer base. As Zain expanded across the region, Al Roudhan’s responsibilities also grew from 2003 onwards as she was an active participant in the start-up teams in several Zain operations across the Middle East, namely Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia.

 Throughout her years at Zain she has also orchestrated numerous strategic alliances with international and regional operators.

Mrs Al Roudhan is a member in a number of international standards and regulatory affairs bodies such as the GSMA Arab World regional interest group and the GSMA Chief Regulatory Officer Group (CROG). She holds a BSc in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Kuwait University and has attended programs at Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), and executive programs at Harvard Business School.

Zain Kuwait is the country’s largest and most successful operator serving 2.9 million customers on its robust nationwide state-of-the-art 4G LTE network. Data revenues now represent 36% of the operation’s total revenues and Zain Kuwait remains the most efficient mobile operator within Zain Group.
