DUBAI, Feb 29: A new robot will be deployed to monitor violations by users of bicycles and electric scooters, with trials set to begin in March. The robot, tasked with surveillance and detecting violations, will monitor various infractions such as failure to wear helmets, improper parking, unauthorized scooter use by multiple individuals, and riding in pedestrian-only zones, all of which can result in fines of up to Dh300. Equipped with artificial intelligence, the robot can identify violations with over 85 per cent accuracy and deliver data within 5 seconds, covering a surveillance range of up to 2km. Designed to operate effectively in different weather conditions, the robot prioritizes safety by coming to a halt when it detects objects or individuals within 1.5 meters. The initial trial phase will take place in the Jumeirah 3 beach area, allowing authorities to assess the application's impact for potential broader implementation. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with robotics and advanced technical systems provider Terminus Group for this trial, with the agreement signed during the Mena Transport Congress and Exhibition 2024 hosted by the RTA in Dubai.
