Dubai Police Shut Down 103 Fake Social Media Accounts Used in Online Scam Operations

DUBAI, Aug 4: Dubai Police has dismantled 103 fraudulent social media accounts involved in online scam activities during the second quarter of the year as part of ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and protect residents from digital fraud.

The figures were revealed during the quarterly review meeting of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, where senior police officials assessed crime trends, operational performance and measures to tackle emerging security threats.

Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs Maj. Gen. Hareb Al Shamsi, who chaired the meeting, stressed that the growing sophistication of online fraud schemes requires close cooperation between security authorities, government institutions and the wider community.

Dubai Police urged residents to remain vigilant while using social media platforms and online services, warning them not to share personal information, banking details or sensitive data with unknown individuals or unverified websites.

Authorities also encouraged the public to immediately report suspicious messages, fraudulent accounts or suspected scam attempts to help prevent further victims.

During the meeting, officials reviewed cases handled by the Anti-Fraud Centre, examining methods used by cybercriminals to deceive users and discussing strategies to improve early detection, investigation capabilities and rapid response to digital crimes.

Dubai Police said specialist investigative units continue to strengthen proactive policing measures and enhance crime prevention efforts. Authorities added that crime statistics for the first half of the year showed declines in several criminal categories, which they attributed to intensified security operations and preventive initiatives.
