Drug cases in Kuwait drop by 44%

KUWAIT CITY, May 2: Minister of Justice Nasser Al- Sumait said on Saturday that cases of drug dealing decreased by 44 percent during the first four months after the implementation of the new law, compared to the same period the previous year. The Public Prosecution showed a decrease of 111 cases, as the number dropped from 255 to 144, Minister Al- Sumait explained in a statement. He added that this reflects the impact of the new legislation in confronting this type of crime, especially when combined with the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in apprehending perpetrators. The Amiri Decree Law No. 59 concerning the control of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, regulating their use and trafficking, came into effect in mid-December last year, forming a comprehensive legislative framework covering all aspects related.
