Drone strike sparks fire near Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, May 17: Authorities in Abu Dhabi said emergency teams responded to a fire that erupted in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region following a drone strike.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported and that there was no impact on radiological safety levels at the facility. Precautionary measures were immediately implemented while authorities continued to assess the situation.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) stated that the incident did not affect the safety of the nuclear plant or the operational readiness of its essential systems, adding that all units at the facility continue to operate normally.

Authorities urged the public to rely only on official sources for information and warned against spreading rumours or unverified reports. Further updates are expected as investigations continue into the drone strike and resulting fire incident.
