Drone Attack Hits Tanker Near Oman’s Sohar Anchorage; Crew Evacuation Under Way

MUSCAT, Oct 11: A tanker was struck by an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) near the Sohar anchorage in Oman, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday.

In an update to its initial incident report, UKMTO reclassified the incident as an attack after confirming that the vessel had been hit by a UAV on October 11, 2026.

Local authorities are assisting in evacuating the crew, UKMTO said. The crew’s condition, the extent of the damage and the potential environmental impact remained unknown at the time of the latest update.

UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity as authorities investigate the incident.
