KUWAIT CITY, Nov 12:Authorities have reiterated strict penalties for motorists who commit major traffic violations, warning that vehicles may be impounded for up to two months in certain cases. The reminder comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and curb reckless driving across Kuwait.
According to the Traffic Department
Impoundment of Vehicles
Vehicles will be impounded for two months if drivers are caught
1. Violating overtaking rules
2. Deliberately obstructing traffic or parking in prohibited areas. Such offenses may also result in a settlement order fine of KD 15 to KD 20, depending on the severity of the violation. Fine KD 15 - 20
Traffic Lanes Violations
Drivers are urged to obey lane markings and traffic signs. Failure to do so could lead to imprisonment of up to two months and a fine ranging from KD 100 to KD 200, or both penalties, upon referral to court. Fine KD 50
Reckless Driving
Motorists engaging in reckless driving face much harsher consequences, including imprisonment from one to three years and fines between KD 600 and KD 1,000, or one of these two penalties. A settlement order of KD 150.
Using a Mobile Phone
Having a mobile phone in hand while driving or while signaling is another serious offense. Convicted drivers may face up to three months in jail and fines from KD 150 to KD 300, or one of the two penalties. A settlement fine of KD 75 may be imposed instead.
Driving below the Minimum speed limit
Authorities also cautioned against driving below the minimum speed limit on highways or ring roads, warning of imprisonment of up to three months and fines between KD 150 and KD 300. A settlement order of KD 30 applies in such cases.
Driving without a driver's license or a suspended license
Driving without a valid license or with a suspended license may result in imprisonment of up to three months and fines of KD 150–300, or one of these penalties. The settlement fine is KD 75.
Driving on the Shoulder of the road
Motorists are further reminded not to use the road shoulder illegally. Such actions carry imprisonment of up to three months and fines from KD 150 to KD 300, or both. The settlement fine is KD 75.
Speeding and Weaving between vehicles
Speeding and weaving dangerously between vehicles are among the most grievance offenses. Speeding violations can result in one to three years’ imprisonment and fines between KD 600 and KD 1,000, or a settlement fine of KD 70 to KD 150. Drivers caught weaving between lanes risk one month in jail and fines of KD 50–100, or a settlement of KD 30.
