Draft law on insurance against ‘medical’ errors to be submitted soon to Fatwa dept

KUWAIT CITY, July 19: Assistant Undersecretary for Support Medical Services at Ministry of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi revealed that the draft law for insurance against medical errors (Al- Takaful Fund) will soon be submitted to the Fatwa and Legislation Department for review after which it will be sent to the Cabinet for approval, reports Al- Anba daily.

During an interview, Dr Al-Harbi said the concept behind the establishment of the Al-Takaful Fund is excellent for the current phase. Meanwhile, he affirmed that the ministry is working on solving the problem related to recruitment of nurses from India, stressing the keenness of the ministry to ensure the best candidates work in the nursing sector.

Dr Al-Harbi indicated that nurses undergo assessment every three months during the first year of their employment in order to identify their level of performance. He revealed that 150 audio recording devices and video cameras are installed in ambulances which are connected to the emergency departments of hospitals via big screens in order to help the medical staff to follow-up the situation of the patients until they reach the hospital. He also revealed about a future plan to buy 82 ambulances.
