KUWAIT CITY, June 8: Dr. Jasim Yousif Alabbad has assumed the position of Director General of the Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI), which was established by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
Dr. Alabbad brings extensive leadership and administrative experience to the role. He previously served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital and chaired the Council of Surgical Departments at the Ministry of Health. Academically, Dr. Alabbad served as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, where he played a significant role in the development of medical curricula and training programs at both Kuwait University and the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization (KIMS).
On the international level, Dr. Alabbad currently serves as Kuwait’s governor for the American College of Surgeons and is also a member of the Self-Assessment Committee of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
Dr. Alabbad earned his medical degree from Kuwait University before completing his General Surgery residency training at McGill University in Canada. He subsequently pursued fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Michigan State University in the United States.
His clinical interests focus on the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer, while his research and academic work concentrate on colorectal disorders and the advancement of medical education.
