Initially winning $50,000 in mid-October while playing the Virginia Lottery’s Safari Quest online game, Minton found herself in disbelief when, just one week later, she hit the nearly $1 million jackpot, according to lottery officials.

Recounting the moment of her second win, Minton shared that she was leisurely playing the game on her mobile device by a campfire when she noticed the jackpot resetting. Assuming someone else had won, she soon realized that the impressive $912,936 jackpot was on her own screen, making her the fortunate winner.

Overwhelmed by the unexpected fortune, Minton expressed her shock to lottery officials, saying, “I’m in disbelief!” Safari Quest, available on the Virginia Lottery’s app, involves matching symbols on a 5 x 3 grid, with a bonus wheel offering the chance to win a progressive jackpot if three bonus symbols align.

The ticketing price for the game ranges from $.20 to $50, and the current jackpot, following Minton’s win, is estimated at just over $300,000. Lottery officials highlighted that the profits from the Virginia Lottery contribute to the state’s K-12 public schools, having raised over $867 million in the fiscal year, with 10% allocated to the schools’ budget.

Last year, approximately $2.7 million was generated to support schools in Minton’s hometown of Gloucester. While winning multiple jackpots is more common with traditional lottery ticket purchases, Minton’s double win on the app adds a rare twist to the tale of luck striking twice.
