Minister of Social Affairs announces key changes to charitable associations' regulations.
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: The Charitable Societies and Foundations Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs sent a letter to the chairpersons of the boards of directors of charitable societies, reiterating its warning against dealing with entities outside Kuwait that are not accredited within the humanitarian work system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, say reliable sources.
Sources disclosed that the Ministry of Social Affairs sent the letter in response to the correspondence from its Foreign Affairs counterpart regarding observations that some charitable societies are dealing with unaccredited entities. Sources said the ministry stressed that the necessary measures will be taken in case of non-compliance. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs informed the charitable societies and foundations about the participation requirements for the Seventh Family-Friendly Institutions Award 2026, which will be launched by the Social Affairs Sector and the Department of Family and Childhood in the Arab League with the theme, “Best Initiatives to Promote Family Well-being.”
The ministry revealed that the award is for government and private institutions, and civil society organizations. It indicated that the award aims to highlight pioneering initiatives and innovative practices that improve the quality of life of Arab families, strengthen their ability to deal with challenges, and support family stability and cohesion. The participation criteria stipulate that the project or idea must provide a solution to a family- related issue and demonstrate a clear and measurable impact on improving the quality of family life. The project must also respect the values, customs and social traditions of Arab families, and must be feasible and easily accessible for all family members.
The criteria require that the project or idea take into account digital security and family privacy, while introducing innovative and unprecedented ideas or practices. In addition, the project or idea must ensure the optimal use of available resources to enhance efficiency and sustainability. It must be capable of being expanded and implemented at the national level, with the potential for future replication and wider application. The ministry urged the charitable associations and foundations that meet the award requirements and wish to participate to notify it by Aug 23, clarifying that the award will be presented in the form of a certificate of appreciation.
