Diplomatic concerns rise as 2 Kuwaiti citizens kidnapped in Iraq

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 25: On Monday, the Iraqi Al-Sharqiya channel reported a distressing incident in the Al-Mashaif area of Anbar Governorate, revealing the kidnapping of two Kuwaiti citizens along with the subsequent burning of their vehicle. The news sparked an immediate response from representatives, notably MP Majid Al-Mutairi, who disclosed his communication with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the State of Kuwait, Al-Manhal Al-Safi.

In his social media update on platform “X,” Al-Mutairi emphasized the imperative nature of dialogue with both diplomatic entities to ascertain the diplomatic initiatives underway, establish the well-being of the abducted citizens, and ensure their safety. Concurrently, MP Dr. Hamad Al-Matar echoed these concerns in a similar online post, urging the Minister of Foreign Affairs to take swift and decisive action for the prompt release of the kidnapped individuals. Al-Matar further called upon Iraqi officials and security authorities to facilitate the citizens’ safe return to Kuwait, pledging personal commitment to closely monitoring developments by engaging with the Foreign Minister on the matter.
