BAGUIO CITY, Philippines, Jan 15, (Agencies): The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday, Jan 15, that the outbreak of diarrhea in Baguio City has been successfully "contained" as the number of reported cases has significantly decreased.

DOH Spokesperson Undersecretary Eric Tayag shared optimistic news during an interview, stating, "The number of individuals reporting having diarrhea or gastroenteritis suddenly decreased, so this is good news for Baguio City."

Despite the positive development, concerns lingered as water samples collected from Baguio City indicated the presence of Total Coliform and E. Coli, suggesting potential fecal contamination. Tayag clarified that the presence of E. Coli serves as an indicator of fecal contamination from individuals carrying diseases.

Additionally, Tayag noted that the DOH is eagerly awaiting the results of laboratory tests conducted on samples taken from individuals hospitalized during the recent outbreak.
