Denmark Warns of Growing Terror Threat Linked to Iran

COPENHAGEN, May 29: Iran has become an increasingly significant factor in the terror threat facing Denmark, particularly against Israeli and Jewish interests as well as Iranian dissidents living in Europe, Denmark’s national security and intelligence service (PET) said on Friday.

PET Director Finn Borch Andersen said state actors have become more prominent in the overall terror threat landscape over the past year, with Iran posing a particular concern.

“We assess that this applies in particular to Iran, which poses a threat especially to Israeli and Jewish interests as well as certain Iranian dissidents in Europe, including Denmark,” Andersen said in a statement.

According to PET, the threat stems from Iranian intelligence services, which it says utilize criminal networks and recruit operatives in Europe to plan and carry out attacks.

The agency noted that escalating tensions between Iran and Israel in recent years, particularly following Israeli and US military strikes against Iran that began in February, have contributed to a more challenging security environment in Denmark and across other Western countries.

Danish authorities said they continue to monitor developments closely and assess the risks posed by state-backed activities targeting individuals and communities linked to Israel and the Iranian opposition.
