Defaulters Pay Up: Kuwait Amasses 45 Million Dinars in Collections

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: A recent report from the Information Technology and Statistics Sector within the Ministry of Justice unveiled that the General Administration of Enforcement, through the electronic justice portal, collected over 45 million dinars in the past nine months of this year. This collection encompassed various payments including expenses, rents, travel ban orders, and partial payments, reports Al-Rai daily.

The statistics indicated an average monthly collection rate of approximately 5 million dinars from January to September 2023. Rent collections by the ministry constituted the highest numerical value at around 24 million dinars, followed by miscellaneous expenses which exceeded 16 million dinars. Approximately 2.2 million dinars were collected from travel ban orders and the “partial payment” clause.

During the same period, the Ministry’s High Court recorded a total of 664,990 cases, covering felonies, misdemeanors, and other cases. Traffic violations constituted the highest number, totaling over 431,000 violations, followed by cases of “appelled misdemeanors” at more than 189,000. Passport misdemeanors amounted to about 4.9 thousand cases, followed by traffic misdemeanors at approximately 4.8 thousand, “ordinary misdemeanors” at about 8.7 thousand, and commercial misdemeanors at around 4.6 thousand cases.

In terms of complaints and cases registered in the Public Prosecution agencies, the total for the same period reached 37.4 thousand cases and complaints. The Commercial Affairs Prosecution had the highest number at about 5.4 thousand complaints and cases, followed by the Information and Publishing Prosecution with 4.7 thousand, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office with 4.5 thousand. Farwaniya Prosecution came in fourth with 4.2 thousand complaints and cases, and the Juvenile Prosecution in fifth, registering more than 3.7 thousand cases and complaints.

Among the courts, the Court of Plenary had the highest number of registered cases, exceeding 356 thousand cases. Following a significant margin, the Court of Appeal registered 28 thousand cases, then the Family Court of Plenary with about 25.4 thousand, the Court of Cassation with more than 15.9 thousand cases, and finally the Family Court of Appeal with cases exceeding 6.7 thousand.

Hashim Al-Qallaf, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice for the Information Technology and Statistics Sector, highlighted the sector’s substantial progress and achievements, aligning with the state’s digitization efforts and modern electronic systems for streamlined transactions, ultimately enhancing ease and convenience for the public.
