KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Abdullah Al-Othman, upheld the death sentence imposed on the murderer of Hani Al-Mousawi, who was shot dead in his home while in his mother’s arms. Earlier, the Public Prosecution, represented by Jahra Prosecution Director Fahd Nayef Al-Mutairi, urged the Criminal Court to impose the maximum penalty on the accused, emphasizing that justice is a sacred duty and that just retribution is the only way to bring justice to the victim and deter anyone who might consider taking innocent lives. The prosecution stressed that society cannot tolerate more murderers and that only justice can bring people’s hearts back to peace.
Attorney Hassan Al-Mousawi, lawyer for the heirs of the victims, stated that the ruling of the Court of Appeals is correct, legally sound, and based on facts. Both the lower and appellate courts confirmed that the killer committed his crime with premeditation and malice, murdering the victim in his home while he was in his mother’s arms. This is one of Kuwait’s most heinous crimes.
Al-Mousawi went on to say that witness testimony, forensic evidence, coroner and mental health reports all confirmed that the mental and intellectual faculties of the accused were healthy when he committed the crime, and that his responsibility for his actions disproved any flimsy justifications used by the killer to evade punishment. He pointed out that the words of Allah Almighty, “They plot, Allah plots and Allah is the best among plotters,” serve as an example and a lesson.
