Deal reached to tackle ‘lymphedema’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: A joint agreement has been signed between the Physical Therapy Department at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center and the Physical Therapy Department at Ibn Sina Hospital for Specialized Surgery to activate the outcomes of the training program for treating lymphedema titled “Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)”.

In this regard, Head of the Physical Therapy Department at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center Hana Al-Khamis said that the agreement comes within the framework of cooperation between the physical therapy departments in government hospitals. She indicated that the physical therapy department at Ibn Sina Specialized Surgery Hospital is ready to receive first-degree and second-degree lymphedema cases soon after the medical staff completed the training program for treating this disease, which extended for two weeks during which they received lengthy practical training on lymphedema patients.

Al-Khamis highlighted the coordination with the head of the Physical Therapy Department at Ibn Sina Hospital to receive some cases at the Babtain Center for Burns and Plastic Surgery affiliated with Ibn Sina Hospital. She praised the initiative of the Department Head Abeer Al-Tajli in presenting the idea to enhance the manual skills that were trained on by a distinguished group of specialists at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center. Al-Khamis affirmed that the agreement would also reduce waiting lists for lymphoma patients at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, given that it receives lymphoma patients from all governorates of Kuwait.
