KUWAIT CITY, July 18: The Air Cargo Customs Department thwarted an attempt to smuggle marijuana, hidden inside a parcel of dates from Thailand. Customs inspectors checked the parcel and discovered 104 pieces of marijuana weighing a total of 549 grams, which were stuffed among the dates. In coordination with the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) at the Interior Ministry, the customs officers apprehended the Sri Lankan suspect upon receiving the parcel. Legal procedures are being completed in preparation for referring the suspect and the seized items to the DCGD. This operation complies with the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al- Yousef to strengthen customs control, tighten security at the ports of entry, and firmly deal with attempts to smuggle narcotics and psychotropic substances.

Meanwhile, the General Department for Ports Affairs, Customs Investigation and Search continues to develop the customs system to uncover and foil smuggling attempts.
