OMAN, Muscat, Jan 10: Daman Speed Academy (DSA) junior drivers added to their silverware over the weekend in Round 8 of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge at the 1km Muscat Speedway at Seeb in Oman, Ahmed Al Saadi finishing second in the Micro Max class (2 podiums in a row), Saeed Al Ali also second in the DD2 class and Hamda Al Qubaisi claiming third spot in the Mini Max category on Saturday, taking the total number of podiums over two days to five.

The weekend proved especially fruitful for Al Saadi who had finished third in class the previous day behind teammate Ali Al Shamsi but went one better on Saturday by being on the second step of the podium in the Micro Max category. He had started the final from third on the grid.

In the DD2 class, Al Ali started from second on the grid and clung on to that position till the chequered flag dropped after 15 laps. At one stage, the gap between Al Ali and the third-placed driver was just 0.16sec. Realising that the gap was too narrow,

Al Ali put pedal to metal and clocked the fastest lap of the Final on lap 11 in a time of 42.477sec, leaving the challenger for his position trailing by 1.648sec. This is Al Ali’s first podium in the DD2 class.

In the Mini Max class, Hamda [wearing the Women In Motorsports colours] started the final second on the grid and took the lead almost immediately when the lights went green.

However, towards the fag end of the 12-lap race, Hamda first slipped to second and eventually had to settle for third place. For Hamda though, this is her seventh trophy of her fledgling career.

Her sister Amna finished inside the top 10 in the Junior Max class. In the Senior Max category, Ahmed Al Khamisi was classified sixth.

The track length was reduced to 1km from the original 1.2 km, which meant that the drivers had to negotiate two less corners in Round 8.

Robert Cregan, DSA Programme Director at Abu Dhabi Racing (ADR), said: “It was a fantastic weekend in Oman for Daman Speed Academy. A clutch of five trophies in one weekend is a new achievement for us so we couldn’t be more proud.

“The results here in Muscat show that we have the pace and the ability to challenge for the top spots in the UAE Rotax Max Challenge and hopefully there is much more glory in store for us in the future. Congratulations to all our junior drivers and the technical and support staff.”
