KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The General Administration of Customs announced that it has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of food items that are prohibited from export, following intensified inspection and monitoring procedures at the Al-Salmi border crossing.

According to the administration, customs officers detected the contraband during routine customs checks and control operations. The prohibited food items were immediately seized, and all necessary legal measures were taken in accordance with established regulations and procedures.

In an official statement, the General Administration of Customs said that the confiscated quantities have been carefully inventoried and classified based on official records. These steps are being carried out in preparation for the proper disposal of the seized goods, in line with applicable laws and regulatory frameworks.

The statement further noted that, upon completion of all legal and administrative procedures, the confiscated food supplies will be handed over to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Ministry will then take the appropriate regulatory actions within its jurisdiction to ensure that food security is maintained and that the stability of local markets is not adversely affected.

The General Administration of Customs emphasized that these actions form part of its ongoing regulatory and supervisory role in preventing the smuggling of subsidized goods and commodities whose export is prohibited. Such efforts aim to protect consumers, safeguard national food supplies, and combat smuggling activities in all their forms.

The administration also stressed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination with relevant government authorities, noting that joint efforts play a key role in strengthening food security, preserving market stability, and safeguarding the public interest.
