KUWAIT CITY, April 5: Customs officers and senior officials at the Kuwait International Airport last Friday failed to confiscate bottles of alcohol from a member of the ruling family, reports Al-Rai daily. The sheikh is believed to be a wellknown personality in sports circles and he arrived at the airport from an unidentified GCC state.

The sheikh insisted to take the bottles of alcohol with him and reportedly insulted the airport officials and customs officers. The problem was solved after the airport received orders from higher authorities to let the sheikh leave with the bottles but not to allow him pass through the VIP gate next time.

Meanwhile, Customs officers at Kuwait airport foiled an attempt by one Asian expatriate to smuggle 3-kg of marijuana carefully hidden inside bags of vegetables. A security source said the Asian aroused suspicion of offi cers at the customs unit of the airport and found the contraband while checking his luggage. He was referred to concerned authority for necessary action.
