CSC Announces Hijri New Year Holiday Dates

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 11: Civil Service Commission has announced the official holiday arrangements for the Islamic New Year (1448 AH) following a Cabinet decision issued on June 10, 2026.

In a circular, the bureau said work will be suspended across all ministries, government agencies, public authorities and institutions in observance of the Hijri New Year, with the exact holiday date dependent on the length of the month of Dhul-Hijjah.

If Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH lasts 29 days, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, will be observed as the official holiday, with government employees returning to work on Wednesday, June 17.

If Dhul-Hijjah lasts 30 days, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, will be the official Hijri New Year holiday, while Thursday, June 18 will be granted as a day off because it falls between two holidays. In this case, official working hours will resume on Sunday, June 21.

The Civil Service Comission added that entities with special operational requirements will determine their holiday schedules through their respective competent authorities, taking into account the public interest and continuity of essential services.
