MoCI suspends salary deduction during Ramadan

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: The Ministry of Justice has announced that Kuwait Crescent Sighting Authority will meet on Thursday evening — the 29th day of Ramadan — in the headquarters of Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies for the Shawwal Crescent sighting, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a press statement, the ministry called on anyone who might see the Shawwal Crescent, which will mark Eid Al-Fitr, to give his testimony. The ministry then greeted the political leadership, citizens, expatriates and all Muslims on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) issued a circular to suspend salary deductions of employees during Ramadan and Eid- Al-Adha months, as well as the month of February when the country celebrates the national and liberation days, reports Al-Rai daily.

Undersecretary of the ministry Dr Khalid Al-Fadhil has forwarded the circular to the assistant undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs for implementation. Al-Fadhil clarified the suspension does not mean cancellation of the salary deduction as it will just be postponed until the next month, stressing that the ministry strictly applies the law on all employees; hence, it is closely monitoring absences and tardiness. Furthermore, the Citizenship and Passport Affairs Department in the Interior Ministry continues to issue e-passports to citizens, reports Al-Rai daily.

Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah has affirmed the successful implementation of the decision on the issuance of e-passports to citizens in the evening shift. He disclosed that around 5,000 e-passports were issued during the first week of implementing the decision.

In another development, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has instructed the owners of nutritional establishments, shops and food stores engaged in food-related activities to visit the Inspection Department in their respective governorates not later than July 15 to replace their old health licenses with the new one issued by the authority, reports Al-Rai daily.
