Preserving legacy: Kuwaiti youth dive into traditional crafts at Makshat 2 project.

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 22: The Kuwait Public Authority for Youth inaugurated the Heritage Professions Training Center today at the Youm Al-Bahar Heritage Village within the “Makshat 2” project on the northern island of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge. The initiative aims to instill a sense of pride and commitment to preserving Kuwait’s heritage among the youth.

Running until February 26, the training center will conduct specialized courses covering various ancient crafts such as the construction of wooden ships, “booms,” sadu (traditional weaving), ceramics, “household boxes,” and more.

Ghazi Al-Jalawi, head of the Authority’s craft and heritage centers, emphasized the importance of acquainting the promising young generation with Kuwait’s traditional professions, passed down from their forefathers. Certified trainers with extensive expertise in these fields, including Abdul Aziz Al-Khabaz, Kamel Al-Qallaf, Dalal Malik, and Muhammad Al-Hatab, have been enlisted to impart their knowledge and skills.

Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Jalawi highlighted the positive response from young participants on the opening day, indicating their enthusiasm for learning about ancient handicrafts.

This strategic move by the Authority aims to engage with young people in their communal spaces, fostering an appreciation for heritage. Al-Jalawi acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Ministries of Information and Social Affairs, which provided the centers for conducting these heritage activities. This cooperative approach between government entities reflects a commitment to community service and heritage preservation.
