By Jaber Al-Hamoud Al-Seyassah Staff KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: Some judges have submitted a joint petition to the Prosecutor General against ex-MP Khalid Al-Sultan accusing him of grumbling and offending the judiciary by his recent statement on “Abdali cell”. In a separate case, the Misdemeanor Court has set Nov 18 for the hearing on a lawsuit filed by the State Security Department against Secretary General of the Islamic Alliance Bloc Hussein Al-Ma’atouq based on a complaint against him for spreading false news violating the national unity at the expense of government.

It will be recalled that Al-Ma’atouq had delivered a sermon after Friday prayer inside Al-Hussein Mosque in Maidan Hawalli and he was accused of delving into issues that violate the mosque regulations. The Public Prosecution had earlier released him on KD 10,000 bail bond. In another case, a local court has set Oct 12 for the hearing on a lawsuit filed by Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Major General Abdul-Fattah Al-Ali against the Editor-In-Chief of Al-Watan newspaper Sheikh Khalifa Al-Ali.

The court adjourned the case due to an altercation that ensued in the previous proceedings concerning the closure of Al-Watan Publishing Company. Security Information Department at the Ministry of Interior disclosed that concerned authorities have filed three cases against Sheikh Khalifa for allegedly resisting and embarrassing a police officer in the course of his official duty. The allegations include insult and abuse of senior officer who ordered the execution of Public Prosecution Department’s decision to ensure that the company was shut down for violating publication law.

Acquitted of mugging: The Criminal Court of First Instance acquitted a suspect of physically attacking and mugging a Pakistani in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The victim said he was trekking to his place of work in the early hours of the morning when an unknown person alighted from a car and started hitting him with a stick. He was able to identify the suspect before the detectives. The prosecution officer disclosed that the suspect had only dispossessed the victim of his belongings forcefully without any physical attack. Arguing in favor of his client, defense counsel Sultan Al-Ajmi raised objection against the charges, saying the evidences are too weak while the related investigation lacks seriousness. He said the victim’s statement was full of lies and contradictions, which rendered it unreliable. He argued that the victim could not identify the real culprit almost one month after the incident, but only used his client as a scapegoat to reach a compromise for settlement since he knows him for a long time.
