KUWAIT CITY, June 4: The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Dhuwaihi Mubarak Al- Dhuwaihi, sentenced the former marketing director of Sulaibikhat and Doha Cooperative Society to five years in prison with hard labor and ordered him to pay KD 105,069 for embezzling funds and goods from the cooperative. The Public Prosecution charged the marketing director and other officials at the cooperative with stealing goods valued at KD93,789 after they were found to be selling these goods outside the cooperative and failing to deposit the sales into its account.
The marketing director is also accused of misappropriating the value of two invoices totaling KD11,280. The court acquitted the contracted directors, former board chairman and employee of complicity in the crime. In another aspect of the case, the court imposed a fine of KD 3,000 on one defendant for abusing his authority and causing financial damage to the cooperative society due to the administrative and financial violations.
Another defendant was fined KD5,000 for abusing his authority, harming the interests of the cooperative, and failure to submit a document related to the administrative investigation to the investigation authorities. The prosecution conducted investigations based on reports from the Ministry of Social Affairs and oversight reports stating the discovery of financial and administrative violations at the cooperative from January 2022 to August 2023.
