KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: The Court of Cassation annulled the verdict issued by a lower court, which sentenced a police officer of rank “Major” to four-year imprisonment as well as a group of his police assistants after they were convicted of assaulting two prosecutors. The court instead ruled to abstain from pronouncing any punishment against them. According to the court files, the first defendant detained the freedom of both prosecutors for cases other than those approved by the law, and without taking into account the procedures.

They did this by restricting their freedom, according to what was seen in the video clips, based on the statements of the first, second, third and fourth witnesses to the incident, and based on statements submitted by the two prosecutors, as well as based on the statements of the first, fourth and fifth defendants, and as indicated in the investigations. The first defendant – as stated in the ruling – presented a false verbal report to a public employee authorized to initiate procedures, fully aware of its lack of truthfulness.

This individual, vested with responsibilities for receiving reports related to criminal activities, went as far as ascribing facts warranting legal action against the plaintiff. The information cannot be traced back to them, as corroborated by the technical evidence from surveillance cameras depicting the chronological order and the extent of acceleration exhibited by the vehicle’s driver.
