KUWAIT CITY, Aug 1: The Criminal Court sentenced two Kuwaiti citizens to one-year imprisonment each with hard labor and payment of KD 5,001 as temporary compensation to the plaintiff who was duped by the citizens by introducing to him a fictitious project of importing automobiles with a supposed attractive profit margin.

According to the case filed by Lawyer Fahad Al-Hadiyyah on behalf of the plaintiff, the suspects deceived the plaintiff with the fraudulent proposal and got a certain sum of money from him for the supposed business. The plaintiff transferred KD 16,000 and paid KD 11,000 cash to the second suspect for the business after they showed him pictures of the vehicles to be imported for sale in Kuwait in the presence of some other people.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court presided over by Judge Ahmad Al-Yaseen overturned the verdict issued by a lower court against a Kuwait citizen in absentia which sentenced him to ten-year imprisonment. The court instead acquitted him of charges of forging official documents. The Public Prosecution had charged the citizen with forging his birth certificate, civil ID card, and passport. During the court session, the defense counsel Lawyer Rashed Al-Zuwair stressed the lack of evidences of a crime, and urged the court to acquit his client
