KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of kidnapping, raping and taking photos of a compatriot at gunpoint. The Public Prosecution had charged the suspect of tricking the victim into accompanying him to his uncle’s house but instead taking the victim to a deserted area with the aim of raping him. The defense counsel Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz stressed the lack of incriminating evidences against his client, urging for the acquittal of his client. Meanwhile, the Misdemeanor Court has sentenced infamous Twitter user ‘@ Kibret1’ to three months in jail with hard labor for offending National Assembly Speaker Mazrouq Al-Ghanim. The Public Prosecution filed defamation charges against the Twitter user as his posts on the microblogging site were deemed offensive and punishable as per the law. On the other hand, the Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Nasser Salem postponed until Jan 3, 2018 the hearing on case against activist Ranaa Al-Saadoun. The activist was accused of repeating the speech of former MP Musallam Al-Barrak entitled, “Enough with Frivolity,” at Erada Square. The Criminal Court overturned the decision sentencing the accused in absentia to one year in prison with hard labor. It then refrained from issuing its verdict and ordered the accused to pay KD 1,000 as guarantee for maintaining good conduct.
